 AGS’ scientifically vetted cut-grading system has received rave reviews for accuracy and consistency. However, many in the trade continue to use proportion-based grading for evaluating the Round Brilliant diamond cut. The AGS Laboratories' challenge was: Could we develop a way to accommodate this preference? The result is the AGS Laboratories Gold Diamond Quality® Report. By adapting the cut-grade technology from a three-dimensional system to a two-dimensional system, we are able to present our light performance evaluation in a proportion-based report for diamond cut. You have the science of the three-dimensional diamond cut grade with the familiarity and simplicity of the two-dimensional system for the Round Brilliant cut diamond. The Gold Diamond Quality® Report is presented in a plastic sleeve with a front pocket, which contains a card with the diamond’s basic information. The result? It’s easy for jewelers to find the right diamond. This new simplicity is the beauty of the Gold Report. |
- AGS Number: Unique identification number that allows AGS Laboratories to respond quickly to questions regarding the diamond.
- Bar Code Unique identifier for each document.
- ASET image: A color-coded Light Performance map based on patented AGS Angular Spectrum Evaluation Tool (ASET) technology.
- Carat Weight: The diamond’s weight is noted to the nearest thousandth of a carat.
- Color Grade: The less color (usually yellow) in a diamond the better the grade. The Color Grade is also expressed in a 0—10 scale with 0 being Colorless.
- Clarity Grade: Clarity refers to a diamond’s inclusions and blemishes. The Clarity Grade is expressed on a scale of 0—10 with 0 being Flawless/IF.
- Comments: Additional notes about the diamond.
- Cut Grade: The American Gem Society sets the standard for documenting a Cut Grade. The Cut Grade is expressed in a unique 0—10 scale, with 0 being an AGS Ideal™ Cut. AGS uses a performance-based system.
- Date Stamp: This is the date the document was produced.
- Important Notice: Along with important disclosures, this paragraph alerts the consumer to seek a Certified Gemologist® to explain how the 4Cs stated in the document can affect the value of the diamond.
- Key to Symbols: Listing of inclusions and blemishes noted on the plot.
- Light Performance: The American Gem Society’s patented method for tracking and measuring how well a diamond handles light.
- Measurements: Round-shaped diamond measurements are expressed (minimum diameter) – (maximum diameter) x (depth) in millimeters. All other shapes are always expressed (length) x (width) x (depth), in millimeters. Length is top-to-bottom measurement and width is left-to-right.
- Polish and Symmetry: These are subjective assessments of the craftsmanship of the diamond cutter – how well he placed the facets on the diamond and how well he polished those facets.
- Proportions: The profile drawing details all of the critical angles and percentages.
- Shape and Style: Describes the diamond’s shape (round, etc.) and style (brilliant, etc.)
- The Seal: Offers protection against fraudulent reproduction.
- Plot: The diamond’s clarity characteristics are mapped using symbols to indicate the inclusions and/or blemishes.
