AGS LABORATORIES OFFERS MULTI-STONE DOCUMENTS

Las Vegas, Nevada, March 1, 2007. AGS Laboratories recently announced that they are offering the Diamond QualityTM Document (DQD) in a three-stone format, and are planning to offer other multi-stone documents in the upcoming quarter.

The three-stone version is slightly larger than the original DQD to accommodate plots for three diamonds, however, all the other benefits and features of the DQD remain the same.

“Our clients have increasingly expressed a demand for multi-stone diamond documents,” says Peter Yantzer, Executive Director of AGS Laboratories. “As we are constantly seeking ways to help them sell more diamonds, we felt it was crucial to their continued success to add these new documents to our product line.”

In 2005, AGS released the Performance-Based Cut Grading System for both the round brilliant and princess — the first-ever cut grading system for a fancy shaped diamond. AGS recently added emerald cuts to its cut grade mix, and plans are under way to release other shapes in the near future.

The science supporting the Performance-Based Cut Grade System reflects AGS’s transition from a proportion-based to a performance-based cut grade system, where all facets of a diamond are measured in three dimensions rather than two dimensions. The Lab uses state-of-the-art ray tracing software to trace light traveling through a diamond. The software demonstrates the quantity and quality of the light being returned to the viewer. AGS Laboratories considers brightness, dispersion, leakage, contrast, and weight ratio, in addition to proportion, symmetry, and polish, when assigning a final cut grade.
