AGS Laboratories Redesigns Website July 18, 2006. Las Vegas. The American Gem Society Laboratories' website, www.agslab.com, has a new look and layout designed to ensure easier navigation. "We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service," says Peter Yantzer, Executive Director of AGS Laboratories. "At the same time, we understand the importance of the Internet as a tool for educating and informing our clients, the consumer, or anyone interested in AGS Laboratories. We wanted to ensure that our site was easy to navigate and that information was readily accessible." The website features the ability to download Lab packets, sample grading documents, a dictionary of terms used in the Performance-based Cut Grade System, a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section for consumers as well as one for the trade, and the AGS Laboratories trade-secure site where users can register for free, then download the cutting chart guidelines and published research on the AGS Laboratories Performance-based Cut Grade System. "Any information that our customer service, marketing, or business development department could mail out, the client can instead download from the Lab's website in a fraction of the time," says Yantzer. "We are continually adding to the site, and in the upcoming months, we plan to expand the research for the trade and provide a section just for diamond cutters." The American Gem Society launched their Performance-based Cut Grading System in 2005, and since then, AGS Laboratories has been implementing the system in their Diamond QualityTM Documents. In the Performance-based Cut Grading System, all facets of a diamond are measured in three dimensions rather than two. The measurements are input into a computer program that traces light rays traveling through a diamond. The ray-tracing program shows the quantity and quality of the light being returned to the viewer. In addition to proportion, polish, and symmetry, AGS Laboratories also considers brightness, dispersion, leakage, contrast, and spread in assigning the final cut grade.
