Peter Yantzer Wins Robert M. Shipley Award April 25, 2005- Las Vegas, NV Peter Yantzer, Executive Director, AGS Laboratories, is the 2005 recipient of the American Gem Society's (AGS) Robert M. Shipley Award. The Robert M. Shipley Award is an annual recognition conferred upon a member of the AGS for outstanding service to the Society, significant contributions to the science of gemology, and who exemplifies its high purposes, objectives and ideals. "I am extremely elated to receive this prestigious award. I know full-well that I am just part of a group of extremely hard-working and talented people, with whom I share this award in my heart," says Yantzer. Peter worked for GIA from 1972-1981. He was a staff gemologist and instructor at GIA New York from 1972-1976. He moved back to Los Angeles to open the LA Gem Trade Laboratory in 1976 and stayed in that position until 1979 when he moved to GIA Santa Monica to open the lab there. He left GIA in 1981. Yantzer's community and volunteer service is just as distinguished as his professional career. He serves on the GemA USA Advisory Board, is an advocate for the homeless, and has provided career counseling in the field of gemology to young students. "Because of Pete's pride and commitment to both the delivery of consistent, accurate diamond grading results and great customer care and service, the AGS Laboratory has been successful. He is the consummate jewelry professional, a most worthy recipient of the Society's highest honor," says Clayton Bromberg, Chairman of the AGS Laboratories Board of Managers. "On behalf of the AGS Lab team, we are all very proud and excited to work with Peter on a daily basis," says Steven S. Biegler, Chief Operating Officer of AGS Laboratories. |
