The Diamond Quality™ Document Color Grade The AGS Color Scale is based on the original colorimeter invented by Robert M. Shipley Jr. The GIA's letter scale is also based on this colorimeter. Prior to the opening of the laboratory, the old AGS scale had only 11 color grades - 0 through 10. 0 the rarest and most desirable, and 10 the least desirable. We realized that the market has more grades. The solution to this dilemma was to add grades in point increments, based on the original colorimeter. This update gave us three things: more accuracy, more grades (21 instead of 11), and exact cross-reference to the GIA letter scale. |
